Do eles need NF?
I'm an ele with prophs and EotN and looking for a good build. I noticed that most ele builds on PvX and such require elite skills from NF. I was just wondering if it's necessary to buy NF to play eles effectively?

No, it is not. You can always use Thunderclap and have fun with Air Magic.
However, Assassin's Promise is a Factions elite, so you might consider getting that. |

Um...it depends. You don't need NF to play a decent Earth or Water build, but I'm assuming that you're talking about NM PvE so I would lean towards "yes".
Fire magic is ridiculous in PvP and NM PvE and all of the good Fire elites are in NF. Like I said, you'll still be able to run some utility builds (Earth, Water, etc), but you'll have a hard time doing the massive damage that fire magic can do. However, here are some builds I would recommend for you:
Now if you were talking about PvP, then I'm sorry to say that you absolutely need NF in the current higher-end meta. If you just want to occasionally RA/AB, then you should be fine. EDIT: Actually, disregard that. I forgot that EotN has Searing Flames, Mind Blast, Savannah Heat, etc. You should be fine. Just go here or here and capture all the good elites like those. EDIT 2: I also didn't realize that you didn't have Factions, which is going to make it hard on you as well. You should be able to scrape together a decent Fire build for NM PvE with EotN...and maybe some decent stuff for PvP, but I'm just not sure. Well, effective Elementalists did exist back when Prophecies was the only campaign out, so I'd say you're OK.

For HM PvE, it's harder as you're more limited in skills, but some useful stuff does exist. With EotN, you're going to suffer a bit more. However, support builds can be created which use no NF or Factions skills (it's just harder). Last edited by Xenomortis; Aug 31, 2009 at 06:12 PM // 18:12.. |

Eruption, Earthquake, Ward against Melee/Foes/Elements, Stoning and access to weakness (Enfeebling Blood) are all still there. The real hurt is no AP for those skills, but for NM you should be fine with anything. Of course, you can still run Ether Renewal, Aura of Restoration and Glyph of Swiftness and some monk prots along with Infuse fairly well. You won't have access to Spirit Bond or Shield Guardian. Although Aegis, Prot Spirit, Life Attunement and some other useful stuff is still obtainable. And let us not forget that EotN grants the rather obscene PvE skills. |

Technically you can get by with one campaign if you wanted to. You're just far more limited on what types of things you can do, that's all. Not like you won't be able to fill your skill bar with enough skills or anything though. For a list of all the elemental skills you can expect to find in Nightfall, check this list. Ebon Hawk has great synergy with Stoning (core skill) and Glowstone (another Nightfall skill). Ether Prism is the holy grail of energy management. If you take Glyph of Energy, Ether Prism is in some cases better energy management (doesn't just affect your next skill) plus it serves a dual purpose as a quick save from incoming heavy damage. Master of Magic opens a lot of doors for possible builds. Technically, you only need 12 attribute points in Energy Storage to be able to perform well in all other Elemental attributes, leaving 12 other attribute points to be placed wherever you wish (2nd prof anyone?). Plus, most people don't realize this, but Glyph of Elemental Power (core skill) will increase your attribute points to an additional 14, which is more than reasonable. Then you have Savannah Heat and Searing Flames, arguably the two best damage skills in the entire game. Consider that most people I know consider Nightfall the best campaign in the game, me included. You gain heroes which as anyone who has heroes knows, you can't go back to henchies once you start using them. It's your money, and I won't tell you you can't live without it, but I can just about guarantee you'd be happy with Nightfall. |

Back in Prophecies days, most eles ran Glyph of Renewal or Echo nukers. Unfortunately, both those elites are in the Ring of Fire.
Example: Fireball Meteor Shower Glyph of Renewal Fire Storm (was good before AI ran out of it) Searing Heat Glyph of Lesser Energy Fire Attunement Resurrection Signet (or other res of choice) Replace Fire Storm with Mark of Rodgort, and it's still a decent bar for Normal Mode. Though far outclassed by Asassin's Promise, Savannah Heat, Searing Flames and Mind Blast builds. You'll have to get the other campaigns for those. |

You haven't said what level you are, or where you are in the Prophecies campaign, or what your secondary is. But here is a Prophecies only basic fire build without an elite from the stickied basic thread in Campfire. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10314574
Aura of Restoration Glyph of Lesser Energy Ward Against Elements Fireball Immolate Fire Storm [open slot] Resurrection Signet The only Prophecies Fire elite is Mind Burn and that is captured in Hell's Precipice.
